Interesting Calgarian: Michael Sikorsky

18Oct13
One of the brightest, most forward-thinking individuals in the rapidly-advancing iPhone app development field has set up shop right here in Calgary!  Michael (MJ) Sikorsky started Robots & Pencils in 2010, after building and selling multiple tech businesses.  “This is our 100 year company”, states MJ, planning to maintain this company as the family business, instead of selling.  Robots & Pencils found its success rapidly, with many blue chip clients eager to to work with MJ to develop custom apps for their businesses.   As well, several Robots & Pencils apps have hit the “top 10” lists of the iTunes App Store.
Want to talk about overachieving? MJ was named Canada’s Internet Revolutionary by Profit Magazine in 2007.  He has won the Great Canadian Pitch-Off at the Canadian Venture Forum, and has spoken at Cyberport Hong Kong, Harvard Business School, MIT, and Stanford.  In 2010, MJ was named one of Calgary’s Top 40 Under 40, and become the Entrepreneur in Residence at the University of Alberta.  In 2011, MJ was also selected as one of Alberta’s 50 Most Influential People.  If that resume wasn’t impressive enough, just last night, we were thrilled to learn that MJ won the Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award!
We love how much talent we have in this city, and with trailblazers like MJ calling Calgary home, this is the place to be!
